KOICA, World Best Friend and Boyoung Tech Partner to Improve Quality of Education through IT

KOICA recently partnered with Korean NGO – World Best Friend – and Korean company – Boyoung Tech – in the construction of an IT Training Centre in Baringo County. This was part of its global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program aimed at improving economic growth and promoting the quality of life in Kenya by assisting IT technology development and cultivating IT experts. KOICA supported this Project through funding that also successfully saw ten schools in Baringo County each receive an IT classroom that would benefit 1,000 students. Additionally, 200 Kenyan teachers and government officials would receive training in the newly launched facility, with the aim of improving the teachers’ teaching skills.

In a ceremony attended by the Korean Ambassador to Kenya H.E. KIM Chan Woo, Baringo County Governor Hon. Benjamin Cheboi,KOICA Kenya Office Resident Representative Mrs. Moon Jung Choi, and other officials, the IT training center was officially launched in Kabarnet area, Baringo County, on January3, 2014.

In his speech, the Korean Ambassador noted that the access and use of IT is crucial to the provision of quality education and training. He added that education was an integral part in the growth of any society today, and emphasised that Korea believed the use of IT technology right from the basic education was one of the greatest tools that had the power to significantly improve the lives of our children.He was pleased that the Project would help in motivating and encouraging the Kenyan teachers as they go through the important journey of imparting knowledge and creating good citizens out of Kenya’s children.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Resident Representative of KOICA, Mrs. Moon Jung Choi,was hopeful that the new facility would provide the students and staff in Baringo County with an important window for accessing the world of knowledge and information.

This Project is a clear indicator of the good bilateral relations between Kenya and Korea, and a confirmation of the latter’s continued support to Kenya in its endeavor towards achieving its development goals.
