The Green Motherhood Project

  • Launched: 8th May 2026
  • Location: Keek Onyokie, Kisaju, Kajiado County
  • Partners: KOICA Kenya Office, the National Government Administration and the Keek Onyokie community
  • Trees: 2,824 fruit-tree seedlings — oranges, mangoes, papayas, passion fruits, avocados, tree tomatoes, guavas, pomegranates, apples, plums and pepino melons

The Green Motherhood Project links climate action with the health of mothers and children. Instead of ordinary trees, KAKC and KOICA Kenya planted fruit trees that will feed children, nourish expectant and breastfeeding mothers, lower household food costs and strengthen the community’s resilience to climate change.

The seedlings are going to Kisaju Dispensary, the Senior Chief’s Office, Kisaju Primary and Secondary Schools, Kisaju Catholic Church, Inkiito, Oloyiyangalani, Inchoroi and twelve other schools. 360 trees were planted at the Senior Chief’s camp, which serves as the area’s temporary antenatal, postnatal and child-immunisation centre while Kisaju Dispensary is being built. Residents have committed to nurture the trees, with an estimated survival rate of 90%.
